**Course Description:**
This beginner-level course is designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of safe and effective firearm handling and shooting. Whether you're new to firearms or looking to build your confidence and skills, this class covers essential topics including firearm safety, basic shooting techniques, equipment, and proper handling. Participants will gain hands-on experience with various types of firearms, learn how to properly load, aim, and fire safely, and develop an understanding of proper range etiquette.
**Topics Covered:**
- **Firearm Safety**: The 5 Rules of Gun Safety, the importance of muzzle control, trigger discipline, and safe handling.
- **Types of Firearms**: Overview of different types of firearms (handguns, rifles, shotguns) and their components.
- **Basic Marksmanship**: Proper stance, grip, sight alignment, and trigger control to improve accuracy and comfort when shooting.
- **Range Etiquette**: How to behave on the shooting range, including communication, positioning, and respecting others.
- **Cleaning and Maintenance**: Basic firearm maintenance, including how to clean and store a firearm properly to ensure longevity and safe usage.
**Class Objectives:**
By the end of this course, students will:
- Understand the fundamental safety rules and apply them while handling firearms.
- Gain confidence and competence in handling and shooting firearms.
- Learn basic shooting techniques for improving accuracy and control.
- Be familiar with proper firearm care and maintenance.
**Prerequisites:**
None. This class is designed for beginners with little to no prior experience with firearms, or experienced shooters looking to improve their skill set.
Targets and Target Stands will be provided
Students should bring
- ***RENTALS AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST ***
- Pistol of your choice. Make sure it is in good, working condition-
- Outside the waistband or IWB holster and gun belt
- At least two magazines. (1 in the gun, 1 on your belt or more)
- Magazine pouches so you can carry at least 2 extra magazines
- At least 200 rounds of your caliber ammunition
- Eye and ear protection (preferably electronic)
- Comfortable shoes. Most of the day we will be on our feet.
- Sunscreen, a portable chair, and a hat (Optional, but we will spend all day in the sun.)
- Drinks, snacks, and food for lunch.
**Materials Can Be Provided/Rented Check with Instructor prior to class for more info:**
- Firearms (variety of handguns and/or rifles depending on the class focus)
- Ammunition (provided during the class)
- Ear and eye protection
**Duration**: 4 hours (including instruction and range time)
Aaron Karsh is certified by the NRA as a Basic Pistol Instructor and a USCCA Certified Instructor in their Defensive Pistol Program. Support staff also has extensive experience in both shooting and teaching the basics of firearms, opertating them safely, and helping to teach you how to do so as well!
